A NOTE ABOUT OUR TUITION CHANGES
At Miles of Music we value accessibility, representation and diversity of ages, incomes, cultures, abilities and more. For this reason, we set tuition quite low when we started and have raised it only twice in seven years.
Recently, we realized that the tuition we've been charging is not enough to sustain the program as we designed it. We simply don't bring in enough money to pay our teachers and other staff a fair wage for the work they do.
After much consideration, we've opted to move to a "tiered tuition system" that will allow campers to pay what they can. The "Full Tuition" tier represents our actual cost per camper on the island ($1200). “Discount Tier 2” offers a more accessible price that’s just a slight increase from our 2013-2016 price of $850, but still a little less than if we had kept up with inflation all along ($900). And finally, “Discount Tier 1” offers something in the middle.
We will continue to fundraise both within and outside the Miles of Music camper community to cover the difference between the actual cost of camp and Discount Tiers 1 & 2. The biggest shift with this new tuition plan is really that we're making an extra effort to be transparent with our beloved campers and our donors, so we can all acknowledge what it really takes to make this event happen, while presenting a clear opportunity for those who are able to pay a little bit more to do so.
We also recognize that even the Tuition Discount Tier 2 is a stretch for many people, so we continue to work hard on our additional Tuition Assistance programs, including Work/Trade Discounts and juried awards we're calling Merit & Community Discounts.
If you would like to make a direct, tax-deductible donation to Miles of Music Camp to support these discounts, please sign up for our email list, and we will email you when our next fund drive is announced.
Thanks for the many ways you all continue to give to our community – whether with your time, energy, talents, financial resources or all of the above. Good luck in the Lottery and we expect to see you all on the Island one day soon. – Kristin, Laura & the Miles of Music Advisory Committee

Feb 4th - Deadline for all Work/Trade Discount Applications
Feb 11th - Deadline for all General Lottery Applications
Feb 17th - Deadline for Merit & Community Discount Applications
Late February / Early March - All lottery results announced
If you’re offered a spot at camp, you’ll have two weeks from the date of the offer to pay the balance owed or request a full refund of your $100 deposit.
Anyone not offered a spot at camp will be put on a Waiting List. Offers will be extended on a rolling basis according to the type of spot that has opened up (adult, youth etc). We’ll keep your deposit as long as you choose to remain on the waiting list, or until May 22nd, when we will refund all deposits to all people not yet committed to a spot at camp. You may also request a refund on your deposit by removing yourself from the waiting list at any time.

Looking for more clarity on the application and lottery process? Read on.
Because Miles of Music Island Camp is awesome, it’s also very popular! We’ve sold out quickly for the past several years, so in 2017 we created a lottery that enables us to have an extended application period and then an organized acceptance system in which every applicant gets an answer at the same time.
If you apply by the deadline, your name will be put into a hat and then drawn at random from two pools of “returning campers” and “new campers” with an aim to ensure a balance of both. All applicants will receive an email by early March letting you know one of two things:
You’ve been accepted into camp, OR
We’ve put your name on the waiting list in case of cancellations.
If you’ve been placed on the waiting list, we’ll let you know on a rolling basis if a spot has opened up for you at camp.
The application fee is a 100% refundable deposit of $100/person (see below for the various deadlines).
You may apply as an individual, as a family, or as a group of friends. If you apply as a family or friend group, we’ll name your group and enter that name as many times as there are people in your party. That means your fates are linked, and you’ll either all get in or all get on the waiting list together.

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
Once you’ve been offered a spot at camp, you may cancel with partial refunds according to the following calendar:
- If you cancel within two weeks of your acceptance, we’ll refund your $100 deposit in full, regardless of the date.
- If you’ve paid in full and you cancel before April 1st, we’ll offer a refund minus your $100 deposit.
- If you’ve paid in full and you cancel between April 2nd and May 1st, we’ll give you a 50% refund.
- If you cancel after May 1st we unfortunately cannot offer any refunds.
