ISLAND CAMP
JUNE 13-19, 2026

2026 InstructorS & Staff

FAQ

This is the “original” Miles of Music event – five full days packed with classes and concerts, jams and workshops, square dances and Karaoke mosh pits, visual art-making, and activities for kids, creative writers, would-be boat racers, and much more. With arrival and departure days in the mix, this is a solid week-long experience.

Each year’s program offerings unfold differently, shaped by the people we bring as teachers, and the people who choose to attend. Check out our Instructors & Staff page to get a feel of the themes that will likely emerge – keeping in mind that we’re often building and adding to the staff list and the program right through the first days of camp. You could also check out some past schedules and class descriptions below.

While the details change, our focus remains the same: exploring traditional music, songwriting, and creativity — and the ways those deepen and strengthen one another. Campers develop big-picture musical skills like writing, arranging, building repertoire, ensemble playing, theory, and performance.

Instrument-specific instruction is always offered for guitar, voice, fiddle, banjo, bass, mandolin, and drums. Sometimes we have classes or tutors available for other instruments, pending interest and instructor roster. But for the most part, our classes approach music in a holistic way, welcoming all instruments and taught entirely by ear.

Meanwhile, life on the island is intentionally simple and low-tech. Stepping away from the noise of daily life creates space to reconnect with your instrument, your creativity, and the people around you. Meaningful human connection isn’t a byproduct of Island Camp—it’s the foundation.
